
Sunapee Scramble to Host 2025 Collegiate Mountain Running National Championships
Sunapee, NH – May 30, 2025 — The Collegiate Running Association’s (CRA) 2025 Collegiate Mountain Running National Championships will take place this Sunday, June 1, at the Sunapee Scramble in Sunapee, New Hampshire. This event marks the first time the SIX03 Endurance Sunapee Scramble will host the Collegiate National Championships and will also serve as the USATF Mountain Running Championships, making it a pivotal mountain running race for athletes nationwide.

The challenging 9.3-mile course features over 3,300 feet of elevation gain, testing athletes with steep ascents and rapid descents on Mount Sunapee. The race will determine the top collegiate mountain runners in the nation and serve as the sole selection event for the U.S. Mountain Running Team competing at the World Championships in Canfranc, Spain, this August.

The Sunapee Scramble course challenges runners with a 2.3-mile ascent of 1,500 feet to the summit of Mount Sunapee, followed by a 1.75-mile descent. The second lap includes a 3.5-mile climb with an additional 1,800 feet of elevation gain, concluding with another 1.75-mile descent to the finish.

The top four U.S. men and top three U.S. women finishers will qualify to represent Team USA at the World Mountain Running Championships in Canfranc, Spain, from August 25–28, 2025.
​
For the seventh year, prize money will be distributed to the top college finishers in the men's and women's collegiate championships. Along with prize money, top collegians will take home JAMBAR, the official nutrition bar of the Collegiate Running Association.
Athletes to Watch
Women:
·Oakley Olson (Utah Valley University): The defending champion from last year's Snowbird event, Olson earned second-team All-WAC honors and contributed to UVU's highest-ever team finish at the NCAA Championships.

·Andrea Kuhn (The Ohio State University): A seasoned competitor with impressive personal bests, including 15:57.72 in the 5000m and 33:29.49 in the 10,000m.
​
·Kyla Christopher-Moody (Montana State University): Standout on the cross country course and track with personal bests of 9:13.46 in the 3,000M, 15:47.56 in the 5,000M, and 34:48.73 in the 10,000M.
​
·Sophie Wright (Western Washington University): An NCAA DII All-American in the DMR and consistent performer with a 6K XC personal best of 21:39.6.
​
·Gabby DeAngelis (University of New Hampshire): Recently recorded a personal best of 10:39.35 to win the NCAA DIII New England 3KSC Championship.
Men:
·Zachary Erikson (Brigham Young University): A two-time Idaho state cross country individual runner-up and Foot Locker Finalist, bringing a competitive background to the race. While at BYU he ran 8:51.44 in the 3KSC, 14:10.76 in the 5,000M and 30:06.03 for 10,000M.

·Jeret Gillingham (Northern Arizona University): Competing for a university known for its strong distance running program, Gillingham is expected to be a formidable contender. He holds personal bests of 8:32.00 in the 3KSC and 14:02.91 in the 5,000M.
​
·Nolan Hosbein (University of Portland): A strong distance runner with a 10K personal best of 30:15.77, 14:27.25 in the 5,000M and 8:17.26 in the 3,000M. He has experience in high-caliber competitions.
​
·Luke Tkaczyk (Siena College): Luke and Tyler, the twin brothers have shown impressive teamwork along with individual success in previous races.

·Colin Cooper (Western Colorado University): Hailing from a region known for altitude training, Cooper brings strength and stamina to the competition from a University known to focus on mountain sports.

·Kenton Fields (Wingate University): A freshman with a solid record in distance events, ready to take on the mountain course.

·Aaron Newell (SUNY Adirondack): An experienced mountain runner with a history of strong performances in challenging terrains.
​
·Andrew Boyle (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill): A graduate student who brings a blend of speed and endurance from his collegiate track and cross-country background.
​
·Kyle Radican (Southern New Hampshire University): A local athlete familiar with the terrain.
·Tom Graham (New Hampshire Technical Institute): A dedicated athlete with a strong work ethic, looking to make his mark in the mountain running scene.​
