New '22 CRA Thunderbunny TRAIL Championships- logo3.jpg

FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2023- Athens, Ohio (Strouds Run State Park)

The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and the Southeastern Ohio Trail Runners (SEOTR) renewed their partnership to bring the Collegiate 11K Trail Running National Championship back to Athens, Ohio for 2022 and 2023 (The 2020 and 2021 events were interupted due to COVID.). We look forward to Friday, May 12 for the return of the Thunderbunny 11K and the Collegiate Trail Running National Championships.  Along with the Collegiate Championships on Friday evening, the event will also host their famous 25K and 50K open races on Saturday morning.

The 2019 event sold out, so you will want to register early. Like all of our championships, this event is Open To The Public, and offers prize money specifically reserved for college students.  Check eligibility requirements or send us an email message with questions.

The 2019 Thunderbunny 11K (~7 Miles) Trail Race served as host of the Collegiate Trail Running National Championships for the first time in race history and we fell in love with the location. This amazing event runs through the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio within Strouds Run State Park near Athens, Ohio, the home of Ohio University. The park sits on the fringes of the city of Athens with park boundaries coinciding with the city limits in several places. The course is a mixture of mostly single track dirt and grass trails and had a total of 1,099 feet of elevation gain spread throughout the beautiful loop course. The park comprises 2,600 acres, and includes Dow Lake, a 160-acre lake created in 1960. The start and finish lines are located next to the lake which is a common destination of Ohio University students to enjoy the weather on sunny spring or summer days.

There are also separate 25km (~15.5 Miles) and 50km (~31.1 Miles) events held on the race weekend (Saturday morning) if you want to camp overnight to get in an extra long run on the beautiful trails.  Due to Strouds Run State Park use permits these races are limited to the first 400 total registered participants each day. In 2019 the event Sold Out nearly 2 months before the event! Please be sure to register early to reserve your spot.

How it works?

When registering for the Thunderbunny 11km, you'll be asked if you've been enrolled in at least 1 college course since January 1st, 2023. If you select "YES" to that question, your information will be sent to the Collegiate Running Association and you'll be included in the Collegiate Trail Running National Championship where they will request verification before awarding prize money.

You'll toe the line for the Thunderbunny 11km, along with "general public" runners in the 12km, and then results for the college students will be separated to show the Trail Championship results. The top 5 college runners will be presented an award, as well as prize money being distributed by the CRA to the top 3 men and women college runners.  College students will not be eligible for the "general public" category awards.
