Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K to host 2024 Collegiate 10k Road Race National Championships

$3,500 Prize Purse Reserved for College Students

For Immediate Release

December 23, 2023 - RICHMOND, VA Named one of the best races in the country, the Collegiate Running Association announced today the 2024 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger will once again serve as host to the Collegiate 10K Road Race National Championships. Excluding COVID interruptions in 2020 and 2021, this will be the ninth consecutive year the best and brightest college students will turn their focus to Richmond as a destination for the annual event.

“We could not be more excited to be back in Richmond and partnered with the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K and Richmond Sports Backers,” said Collegiate Running Association co-founder Steve Taylor. “Since our founding as a non-profit organization a decade ago (2013) we have been thankful and committed to this event and dedicated to helping it grow.  The amazing opportunities for runners, both social and competitive, are what make this event so special. The city of Richmond has so much to offer, especially to college students.”

The Collegiate 10K Road Race National Championship is heading back to Monument Avenue for the ninth year as we celebrate the 25th year of the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger. Year after year people from around the Richmond region and beyond gather to share in the journey of crossing the 10k finish line. This year, race day will be even sweeter as we return to the wave starts we know and love as college students from across the country converge on Richmond.

In 2024 the Collegiate Running Association will provide $3,500 in prize money specifically reserved for college students.

The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and JAMBAR are also excited to extend their partnership with these championships. With JAMBAR becoming the official energy bar of the association back in May, they will provide the top finishers with their product. JAMBAR is an organic energy bar crafted with high-quality protein and fiber, and naturally sweetened for a healthier alternative to traditional energy bars.

Jennifer Maxwell, the founder and CEO of JAMBAR, has been a pioneer in the energy bar industry since 1987, when she founded PowerBar with her late husband, Brian Maxwell.  More than just an energy bar – JAMBAR promotes community and healthy organic nutrition, with a purpose that goes beyond fueling optimum performance. The company donates 50% of after-tax profits to organizations that support active living and music. The name is inspired by Maxwell's passion for music, and the bars are crafted in a dedicated, state-of-the-art production facility in San Rafael, California. Certified organic JAMBARs include vegan and gluten-free options, and come in four flavors: Malt Nut Melody, Chocolate Cha Cha, Musical Mango and Jammin’ Jazzleberry.

"We are excited to partner with JAMBAR and provide our members with a high-quality, organic energy bar option that is not only delicious but aligns with our values as an organization," said Taylor. "Jennifer Maxwell's dedication to promoting healthy nutrition and community engagement is inspiring, and we look forward to working with JAMBAR to further promote these values within the running community."

“With an event of this magnitude, there are so many people who come together to make it possible”, continued Taylor. “Our friends at Richmond Region Tourism are so supportive of our mission and help bring events, like ours, to the greater Richmond Region.  We thank them for their continued support.”

Along with the contributions and support from JAMBAR, we share our thanks to the generous efforts of our friends at Kings Dominion and Richmond Region Tourism, we are excited to announce every college student entered into the 2024 Ukrops 10K/CRA 10K Championship before Tuesday, April 16 will receive a free 3-day admission pass AND free parking pass to Kings Dominion.

The entry list for the Collegiate 10K Road Race National Championships for the past several years has included future Olympians, national record holders, national champions, numerous U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifiers, current and former All-Americans, representatives from various college running clubs, and first-time 10k runners.

“We founded the Collegiate Running Association in 2013 in order to create new opportunities for all college students that enjoy running and active, healthy lifestyles,” said Collegiate Running Association co-founder Jon Molz. “Our vision includes elite runners, club runners, and social runners all converging at the same events. That vision has become a reality and the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k continues to be the perfect host for this championship.”

As the first road race in history with prize money reserved specifically for college students, the Collegiate Running Association 10k Championships have attracted a slew of highly decorated runners enrolled in college classes across the country as they battled for a prize money to help offset college costs. In 2024 the streets of Richmond will once again welcome the nation’s college students for an amazing view of the city. Whether you are looking for social or elite competitive opportunities, the 2024 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K will provide it all.
