FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2023- Athens, Ohio (Strouds Run State Park)
The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and the Southeastern Ohio Trail Runners (SEOTR) extended their partnership, bringing the Collegiate Trail Running National Championship (11K) back to Athens, Ohio for both 2022 and 2023. Due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the events scheduled for 2020 and 2021 were unfortunately interrupted.
In 2019, the Thunderbunny 11K (~7 Miles) Trail Race had the privilege of hosting the Collegiate Trail Running National Championships for the first time in its history, and the organizers instantly fell in love with the location. The race takes place amidst the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio, within the scenic Strouds Run State Park, situated near Athens, Ohio, the home of Ohio University. The park's boundaries coincide with the city limits in several areas, making it easily accessible to participants and spectators alike.
The course itself offers a captivating blend of mostly single-track dirt and grass trails, providing a challenging yet picturesque backdrop for the race. Participants will experience a total elevation gain of 1,099 feet as they navigate the beautiful loop course. Strouds Run State Park spans an impressive 2,600 acres and features Dow Lake, a stunning 160-acre lake created back in 1960. The start and finish lines are conveniently located near the lake, which serves as a popular destination for Ohio University students, who often gather there to enjoy the pleasant weather during spring and summer days.
The CRA and SEOTR excitedly returned to this remarkable venue for the Collegiate Trail Running National Championship, providing college athletes with an unforgettable experience amidst the natural beauty of Strouds Run State Park. This event provided an opportunity for students from various universities to compete at the highest level while embracing the challenges and rewards of trail running.
