January 30, 2022 – Winchester, VA - The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and the Loudoun Street Mile are excited to announce a partnership which will bring the 2022 and 2023 Collegiate Road Mile National Championship back to Winchester, VA. The 2022 championships will mark the 4th consecutive year this 1-Mile event will host the Collegiate Road Mile National Championship and offer prize money specifically reserved for college students.

“The Loudoun Street Mile has hosted our road mile championships for several years. Winchester, Virginia has opened their welcoming arms to this event and our championships and we could not be more excited to return in 2022 and 2023,” said Collegiate Running Association Co-Founder Steve Taylor. “Several years ago our membership requested the 1 mile road race distance and we listened. Everyone knows the mile. It’s truly the universal distance of our sport and the city of Winchester has been so welcoming to all the runners. It is always especially beautiful for the race finish.”

The 2022 Loudoun Street Mile is scheduled for Memorial Day which is Monday, May 30, and will also host the RRCA National Championships. There will be a common start for the Collegiate Championship and open championship, allowing eligible college students to win both collegiate and open prize money.

“Having participated in the Loudoun Street Mile numerous times, I am extremely excited about the collegiate championship returning to Winchester,” said CRA co-founder Jon Molz. “We’ve seen some tremendous performances the past few years as college students from across the U.S. compete for prize money. As we look to the future we can’t wait to watch the athletes try to take down their personal bests. This is a top notch event with a community that embraces it, and all of the runners have a blast racing down the hill to the finish in front of the huge crowd cheering them on.”

Along with many festivals held throughout the year, Winchester is also the home of Shenandoah University and sits in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The small city of 25,000 hosts numerous charming shops, delicious restaurants, centuries-old architecture, numerous historical landmarks, and museums waiting to be explored following the races. Old Town Winchester offers convenience, charm, and a warm welcome to all.

“The Loudoun Street Mile is excited to extend our partnership with the CRA to continue to bring the Collegiate Road Mile Championship to Winchester,” said Mark Stickley, Loudoun Street Mile Director and owner of Runners Retreat. "This will mark the 4th consecutive year we’ve partnered with the CRA to bring their collegiate national championships to Winchester. It has raised the level of competition in the race and has become an attractive opportunity for collegians, many of whom are in peak condition from track season. This partnership also bolsters our mission of being a family-friendly event and fundraiser for The Laurel Center."

Top participants will be chasing overall prize money with additional prize money designated for the top three collegians. All money will be distributed equally among men and women. Additionally, this year we will also offer a $200 bonus to the winner(s) for a sub-4 minute mile (sub-4:30 for women). Collegians will also be eligible for open prize money.
