SUNDAY, MAY 19, 2024- Fairfax Station, VA (Fountainhead Regional Park)

The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and the EX2 Adventures announced their partnership to bring the Collegiate 10K Trail Running National Championship to Fairfax Station, Virginia for 2024. We look forward to Sunday, May 19 where the Collegiate Trail Running National Championships will be held within the Fountainhead Trail Running 10k Race.

The event has a participation cap, so you will want to register early. Like all of our championships, this event is Open To The Public, and offers prize money specifically reserved for college students.  Check eligibility requirements or send us an email message with questions.

The 2024 Fountainhead Trail Running Race will serve as host of the Collegiate Trail Running National Championships for the first time in race history. This amazing event runs through the rolling hills within Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The approximately 2,000 acre regional park, borders a tributary of the Potomac River, in Fairfax County, northern Virginia. The park is protected and managed by the NOVA Parks agency of Northern Virginia, formerly the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. Fountainhead Park borders Fairfax Station and Clifton, Virginia, with land-use restrictions adjacent to the park to protect the water supply for half of Fairfax County, as well as the natural ecosystems.

The park contains rolling hills, dense forests, and a stream (now a reservoir) that flows into the Potomac River. It has 4 shared-use equestrian trails, mountain biking trails, and a fishing pier. The Bull Run-Occoquan Trail begins (or ends) in this park, and continues upstream through Hemlock Overlook Regional Park to Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville. The park's unique feature for Northern Virginia is the 10.9 miles (17.5 km) trail which was improved and rehabilitated by the Fountainhead Project, funded by a grant, local and state government resources along with business and private donations.

There is also a separate half-marathon event held on race day, however only the 10K will host the Collegiate Championship.

How it works?

When registering for the Fountainhead 10k, you'll be asked if you've been enrolled in at least 1 college course since January 1st, 2024. If you select "YES" to that question, your information will be sent to the Collegiate Running Association and you'll be included in the Collegiate Trail Running National Championship where they will request verification before awarding prize money.

You'll toe the line for the Fountainhead 10k, along with "general public" runners in the race. Results for the college students will be separated to show the Trail Championship results. The top 5 college runners will be presented an award, as well as prize money being distributed by the CRA to the top 3 men and women college runners. Top 5 college students will earn Collegiate Running Association All-America honors and will be presented JAMBAR, our Official Energy Bar
